Hey Donald, no offense intended. The audio is not that bad; considering the circumstances I am VERY impressed with your sound gear (Neumann mic!) and the noise reduction capability of Soundtrack Pro. You might not have it in your budget to do a wireless mic setup; one thing I have done with clients is recommend a high quality digital recorder like the Zoom H4n or Edirol R-09 HD recorder, paired with an inexpensive lav mic with a headphone plug straight into the unit. One sound supplier in my city sells a decent plug-in lav mic for about $40, which sounds amazing when you plug it into a really good digital audio recorder like the Edirol.

You can treat it just like the transmitter part of a wireless setup; just clip it onto the subject and let them drop it into a pocket or clip it on their belt and hide the wire. Then you can synch it up later with PluralEyes just like you would normally. It's also great because in urban or business environments, you can avoid radio or Blackberry interference like you might get with a wireless setup.

Again, great video even with some sound issues, that only a professional would probably ever notice.

A NOTE ABOUT THE AUDIO IN THIS PRODUCTION:

Audio in this documentary was recorded using dual system audio. I use the Zoom H4n and a Neumann boom mic along with the 5D for production. On some of the interviews a good bit of outside noise was picked up (city sounds, tour bus, air conditioning, etc.). To reduce the noise I used the noise reduction plugin inside of Soundtrack Pro. It is the noise processing that is causing some of the audio to sound as if it were recorded inside of a tin can.

In noisy environments such as this a lav mic would have prevented the need for noise reduction and would have resulted in higher quality audio.

I agree. After a certain point, megapixels don't matter, and at the end of the day, actual film has far better resolution than digital. Once you have a properly developed film negative, you can scan it today or 50 years from now and still get amazing images, where digital images depend on technology and file types etc., and probably have a "shelf life" much shorter than actual film. It's a shame about Kodachrome. Color film is still available, but it's mostly pros and hobbyists that use it.

Is the mega pixels the only thing for measuring quality in pictures?
The mega pixel factor doesn't tell anything about the colour accuracy, the balance shadow/lights and so on...not to tell about the reliabilty through years.
To say that digital is better just by the mega pixels factor is very reductive.
There is never a new technology that is better than the previous one in every aspect.
If someone would like to paint, he can chose between oil pastels, ink painting, tempera and so on.
Noone would say one painting medium is better of another, because it is a personal taste matter.
But, when it comes to photography, many say digital is better than analog. Wrong! They are just different medium to depict reality.
If Kodachrome is discontinued, it is a waste for all, because people lose the freedom of choice.
A Kodachrome and analog photography user.

Good question! If you already have a computer, it's a no-brainer: I'd do exactly what you did. The Boxee Box is for people who don't have computers, or who don't want to hook theirs up to the TV.

On a side note, S-video is being replaced by component and HDMI. The laptop I got a year ago to do video editing actually has a VGA port and an HDMI port, but no S-video port. The LCD HDTV we just got at Target does have an S-video input, but only one; it has 3 HDMI inputs and two sets of component inputs. While S-video is definitely better than composite, it's not as good as component or HDMI, apparently.

Thanks for the comment!
